Why Is Stability Important in a Cat Tree?

This topic may seem silly unless you are one of the many people that have purchased a cat tree that was inexpensive and had your cat never use it. Cats are very particular and will not go near something if they experienced something negative around it.

I have seen cats get very excited about the new cat tree in the house. However if they use the tree and it wobbles or is unstable chances are they will avoid using it again. I hope it really was a bargain and you can use it for sculptural art.

Being a multiple cat owner means that I have to be very careful in what I provide to my cats. This is so true when it comes to cat trees. My cats launch onto trees from 10 feet away. They use it to bounce off when they get the cat crazies. They play king or queen of the cat tree and knock other cats off. The swing like monkeys from the scratching areas. Oh and some of my cats weigh 20 pounds!!

I have spent $150 on a “really cute” tree and after assembly and a test drive my cats won’t go near it. The tree looked great, but any jump started a wobble which sometimes would lead to a tip over with a chunky cat. They were scared of the tree for the rest of it’s time in my house. Whether we are choosing a one foot scratching post or a 6 foot playstation every piece should be stable and secure.

Examine every potential tree for the following:
* Does it have a wide base?
* Is the base made from real wood? Is it thick?
* Is the base weighted so the tree cannot tip?
* Can you take it apart if needed and reassemble with the same sturdiness?
* Can you find testimonials on the company?
* What is the return policy?
* Can you call and talk to a person if you have any issues?

Your cat condo is an investment in the happiness of your cat. You also need to be happy with the company and construction.
