The oxalate that these food contain hampers the normal functioning of the digestive and nervous systems as well as cause damage to the dog’s kidneys. Green tomatoes are most toxic but the leaves and the tomato plant itself would also cause tremors and arrhythmia.

These common human foods vary in toxicity. A dog that was purposely given these toxic foods may not be affected at all. One dog may not show signs of food poisoning but it does not mean that the food can be consumed safely by other dogs. The amount of the food ingested, the type of toxicity as well as the body weight of the pet affects the toxicity. Furthermore, the toxic effects may not be readily apparent especially if the dog’s organs are slowly being damaged. Dog owners therefore have to be cautious in giving the pet people food.
