For thousands of years, man have used dogs in many ways. Majority of dog owners keep the dog as pets because these are very loyal and affectionate animals. It is said that the appearance and the behavior of the pet is a reflection of the owner’s personality. Simply put, a responsible and caring owner takes the time to provide the pet with the best care and attention to ensure its health and impressive appearance. The owner would also take time to socialize, obedience train and discipline the dog to mold the dog into a good canine citizen.

Dog training is very critical, especially when you like to socialize. If your dog is not properly behaved it can reflect badly on you. Training your dog to become obedient is also very vital. You can establish yourself as the dominant member and also bond effectively with your pet. The training needs to get started at a younger age. Let your pet recognize that you’re responsible for the training also. Below are some dog obedience tips to follow.

Dogs are, after all, animals. They might not recognize how to behave or respond in certain situations. They normally tend not to respond well to punishments either, as they will often be bewildered about what they’ve done wrong. The correct way to train your dog will be to constantly stay positive. Try to reward your pet for any good behavior displayed. This is the only strategy to strongly encourage your dog to master good behavior. When they do something wrong, they are most likely going to forget it really fast simply because dogs live in the moment. So remaining positive in your approach will be the only way for you to train your dog successfully.

As noted before, dogs are pack animals with instincts. They don’t think like human beings do. They are more instinctive animals. They don’t understand exactly what you’re talking about. For instance, if the leash on your dog gets stuck on something, just about all it has to do is to walk back until the leash is freed. However your dog will almost certainly react instinctively by yanking on the leash as opposed to reasoning out the problem, like a human would. It is possible to teach your dog how to free itself from this problem just by practice and training. Therefore, don’t think your dog will do something by thinking it over. You will need to teach the behavior.

If you want to teach your dog effectively you need to be quite firm. Dogs don’t understand your orders, especially when they are confused. This means you should reward the behavior you are looking for any time it occurs, employing the phrase that’s the command for that behavior. Eventually, your dog will link that word with the behavior you are seeking. Your own behavior towards the dog must be consistent as well. Never confuse your dog by continuously changing your response. In addition it is important to be really gentle any time he makes a mistake. Nonetheless, when he displays a poor behavior you must be firm and never allow him to continue that particular behavior.

By following these basic dog obedience tips you should be able to infuse great behavior in your dog with time. Training isn’t going to happen instantaneously, but over a period of regular time spent with your dog strengthening the good behaviors you’re teaching.

Training is really a process and you have to be patient all of the time. Expect mistakes and always reward your dog for his good behaviors. By always keeping these dog obedience tips in mind you’ll eventually have a quite properly behaved dog who has an important place in your family.

Every trainer will set his or her own guidelines regarding when puppies can begin their training classes. Most will accept puppies between 10 weeks and 4 months of age, because this is when socialization is most important. At this age, puppies are like sponges, ready to soak up all the important information, and short, dynamic training sessions can overcome their brief attention spans. With their constantly fluttering, meandering attention spans, puppies are like most Americans.

Dog jumping can be cute when it is done by a puppy. It can even be a lot of fun when done during playtime. But, what if dog jumping has reached a level where it frightens your guests? Or, what if your dog has taken to jumping on you at inopportune moments such as when you are all dressed up and just about to leave for work or any other important event? In these cases, dog jumping ceases to be cute or fun and becomes quite irritating. This is why it is important to curb dog jumping at the earliest possible opportunity.

Prior to starting dog training, it’s greatest that you know your options well. These days, you are able to find several types of dog training, in many different areas. These trainings vary in price and each one of them has something different to provide.

The first kind of dog training is known as puppy preschool. This is a dog training course meant for puppies that are about 6 weeks to 5 months old. These puppy preschool classes usually last for no more than 6 to 8 weeks. In these training sessions, your puppy is essentially taught how to socialize with people, as well as other puppies. Here, your pup also starts to learn how to sit down, stay at a place, and how to come.

The second type of dog training course is intended for the dogs which are at least five months old. This kind of dog training is called the basic dog training. The length of these classes is usually around eight to ten weeks. This is the basic course, where your puppy is trained the art of walking correctly on a leash, sitting, staying, coming and heeling.

The third type of dog training course is called the intermediate dog training. This dog training aims at training the puppy mostly the same things that are taught in the basic training course, in a more detailed form. At this point, the puppy is taught to stay for a longer span of time, and is also trained to follow the orders given by other people.

The intermediate dog training usually lasts for around 8 to 10 weeks, and is intended for those which are at least five months old. It is important for the dog to have completed its basic dog training course, or to be accustomed to the basic commands that could have been taught by the owner.

The next type of training course is called the advanced dog training course. At this point, once more, the course is very similar to its previous one, i.e., the intermediate dog training course, aside from the fact that this point in time, it is more detailed. Here, the puppy is trained how to sit even without you in the view.

This training course is around eight to ten weeks long, and is meant for those that have completed their intermediate training. Here, they are also trained to walk beside their owners without a leash. Moreover, it gradually prepares the dog to take the Canine Good Citizen training course. The Canine Good Citizen training for dogs is the last course. To pass this course, your puppy will be taught the 10 essential aspects.

This course is purely meant for those puppies which have accomplished all the previous courses. The test is rather tough and can just be passed if the puppy is really well behaved. Based on whether or not your dog can pass, the course can last for a number of weeks.

Keeping this information in mind, you should be able to decide the dog training course best suited for your dog. However, you might seek the viewpoint of your local dog trainers to know more. Many trainers consult for free. So now you ought to be at least a step closer to introducing your puppy into a training course!

If you are looking for the best Dog Training DVD, you can read reviews from people who were able to avail of their services before you. This way, you will be able to learn from their experiences.

For many years, dog training primarily involved yanking your dog around with a choke chain to "make him obey" and to really "let him see who the boss is." Fortunately, after years of successfully applying operant conditioning principles in marine mammal training, there is an alternative method for training your dog; clicker training. Pet owners everywhere are finding that they can build a good relationship by using only positive reinforcement methods, such as praise or treats, and a clicker to reinforce the desired behavior. Not only does this method work to train dogs, but it is also used to successfully train horses and cats.
