Some Importers, Including Some Importers Of Dogs, Will Be Dishonest Just To Make A Profit.

Okay, that is a pretty bold statement. While it is not true of every importer, it is quite common. Many importers of English bulldog puppies are buying cheap puppies from overseas and bringing them in to the U.S. where they will triple or quadruple the price they paid for the puppy. They do this after often breaking numerous federal laws in the process. Be warned and do your homework. An English bulldog puppy can be a great addition to your home. Be sure to buy from a reputable breeder of English bulldog puppies. It will save you a tremendous amount of stress. Not to mention potentially thousands of dollars in saved vet bills.

Some importers lie about how old their imported puppies actually are. These lies are told when the puppies arrive into the U.S.A and have to pass through the U.S.A Customs procedures. Before a puppy is sold from an importer to a would be customer, it is mandated by law that such a puppy be given its rabies vaccination. By law an imported puppy should not be sold to a customer until 30 days after being imported into the U.S.A. California law dictates that a puppy should receive its first rabies vaccination at 4 months of age. Based on these realities, an imported puppy should not be sold to a new owner until it is at least 4 to 5 months old, assuming that it received its first vaccination at the youngest age stipulated by U.S.A law. In keeping with the tone of this article, it should be clear by now that many importers do not exactly follow these stipulated time lines when selling their English bulldogs.

So how can an importer dodge United States customs department? Simply put, by lying. They will have the breeder claim on the dog’s health certificate that a bulldog puppy is actually a miniature bulldog which explains its small size so they will claim it is four to seven months old and had already been given a rabies vaccine. I have had a confrontation with a Mississippi importer. This woman is the owner of a well known website which claims the importation of dozens of bulldogs every year. When trapped in her lye, she simply stated that U.S. customs would deal with it if they actually had a problem with it. From the stance of this woman, it is something that everyone does and U.S. Customs just doesn’t care. Meaning that though it is against the law, it is allowed to happen and so it is ok to do.

Never purchase a puppy that is underage from an importer, even though it may be cheaper. A reputable breeder would not tell a lie about the puppy’s age and fake vaccination records to sell a dog. If an importer would lie about vaccinations and the dogs age who is to say they would not lie about the dog’s pedigree or other important matters about the puppy?

It is therefore wise to buy a healthy English bulldog puppy directly from the breeder. This will save you a lot of money in the long term. Of course you should do your research and make sure that the breeder is indeed reputable. Forget the middleman and in this case, the importer. Become your own importer.
