Potty Training Puppies – The Quick Way
So we all know that when you are potty training puppies that you are not actually using a potty. The first thing you need to realize is that a dog will not lift up the seat of a toilet or make use of the toilet at all. Once you find a good place for him to do his business outside, you will be off to a good start with potty training puppies.
One thing you have to understand is that there are many different breeds and types of dogs. Understanding that some dogs learn how to potty train quicker than other dogs will make the whole process run smoother. This is why it is recommended that you do your research before you go out to buy a pup. Make sure that you are able to handle a certain breed of dog, and that you have the patience to train the dog.
There is one very important thing you want to keep in mind before you get started with the training process. You should not get upset with your dog. They are a bit like children, in that they always want to play, eat and get a lot of attention. So, if he does not get it right the first time around, be calm and try again later.
Firstly – A good schedule is very important in the training process. And this does not just pertain to the potty training process. You want your dog to become a part of your routine, and to pick up the routine quickly. If you wake up at a certain time in the morning, keep it to that time. The same goes for sleeping time, and eating time. Soon the dog will have your routine down perfectly, and will wake you up if you oversleep.
Step two – To start with, make sure that you keep your puppy in a room where the floors cannot get damaged. The best place for this will be in a tiled room, or a room with concrete floors. You do not want your little doggy messing up your rugs or carpets. Also, you want to lay down newspaper on the floor and make sure that there is a designated place for sleeping.
The Third Step – Many people decide to let their dog do its business outside; it is a more natural thing to do. If you however feel that you do not want your doggy getting cold outside at night – inside is perfect too.
Step four – If you take your puppy outside for a pee or poo, make sure that it is only in one spot. The dog will need a bit of time to get used to that spot, but it will happen. Make sure you take him or her to that same spot every time you think he or she needs to go.
Do not forget – Do not play with your pup when he has not made a bowel movement or urinated after waking you up or moaning for no reason. Also, do not get upset. Take the dog back in and keep encouraging him to do his business. Give it a time out in a “time out” area, or his sleeping area.
