PAL To The Animals – Richmond Neuter And Spay Specialists Curb Animal Overpopulation
If ever the animal control campaign had a spokesman, it was Bob Barker, who reminded viewers to “have your pet spayed or neutered” after every episode of the Price is Right. As much awareness as he raised, there is still a lot of work to be done. The folks at Prevent A Litter Veterinary Hospital, or PAL, in Richmond, VA are doing their part to fight the massive animal overpopulation problem, and their first target is ignorance.
The problem of companion animal overpopulation is a losing numbers game that causes a lot of unnecessary pain for humans and companion animals. It also comes with a hefty, multimillion dollar price tag, the majority of which is spent just to kill unwanted animals in shelters.
“People don’t realize how pervasive this problem is,” a spokesperson for PAL said. “A lot of the work we do here is dispelling myths that people believe about having their companion animals spayed or neutered.”
One of the most common objections heard for people not electing to spay or neuter their animal is that they are purebreds. One out of every four dogs or cats brought into animal shelters are purebred, and no matter what breed they are, there are just too many animals.
Many people are convinced that they will find a good home for all their animals, puppies or kittens, but that’s not the point. According to PAL, “every home found for those dogs and cats is a home that is denied for animals who are already waiting to be adopted from shelter.”
The losing numbers game continues. At most, 3% of animals brought to shelters are adopted, and an animal is euthanized every 1.7 seconds.
The cost of prevention for animal overpopulation is insignificant. PAL believes through diligence and hard work, the problem can be solved through cost-effective spaying and neutering of cats and dogs.
This is exactly why PAL was created to specialize in spaying and neutering specifically. Their veterinarians can and sometimes do treat other companion animal diseases and maladies, but because they specialize, they are able to offer spaying and neutering at very low prices.
PAL charges $25 for a male cat surgery, $35 for female cat spay, $35 for male dog neutering and will spay most breeds of dog for under $40. These surgeries include an exam to check for parasites and there are no hidden office visit or exam charges.
“With a little effort, we can stop the problem from getting bigger, and that’s been PAL’s message from day one.” PAL’s message is clear, and the price is certainly right.
