Losing A Pet
Losing a pet is much like losing a family member.
In the past, losing an animal was a quick funeral with a grave under a shrub. The pet industry has options for when a pet passes away.
Throughout the country, you can find full-services companies that handle funeral services for pets with everything from caskets, urns, burials and cremation to counseling services for the distraught pet owner. There are also a growing number of pet cemeteries for those who want their pet to have a permanent, well-cared for resting place.
Although many veterinarians’ offices have offered cremation for their deceased patients through independent services for years, some of the companies that began by providing those services have shifted their focus to dealing directly with pet owners.
Depending on where you live you may find that these services are only available in the more populated regions of the country. If you are lucky enough find a pet funeral service near your home, you will find that many offer services similar to funerals for people. These are much like a human’s funeral, but a doctor does not have to pronounce anyone dead. Some places will collect your pet at the home and have immediate burial. Some also post your pet’s name on their website, along with links to memorial pages or tributes.
You can still find stuff online about it, even if there isn’t an area near you that specializes in pets. You can even find biodegradable caskets online.
If you live in an area where there is no local funeral service and you plan to conduct the burial on your own, you will need to plan ahead and order a casket earlier. This can be an upsetting task if your pet is in good health.
However if this is no funeral service in your area and you would like to have your pet cremated, this can often be done through your veterinarian. You then have the option of selecting an urn for the ashes or remembrance marker. There are even urns that you can put photos of your pet on.
The pet memorial industry has grown to accommodate today’s sophisticated pet owners, allowing them to create tributes to their beloved pets in practically any way they can imagine, to help comfort them during this sad time.
