Golden Retriever Dog Breed Description, History And Temperament

Description: Golden Retriever is a sturdy, muscular, athletic dog first developed to be used for hunting. The dog must be between 22 and 24 inches at the withers and weighs 65-75 pounds.

The height of the dog must be 20-22 inches and weighs 55-65 pounds. The coat of the Golden Retriever may be either wavy or straight, medium length. There is an undercoat, and as the coat is water resistant. The coat color varies in different shades of beige, very light to dark.

History: Lord Tweedmouth is primarily responsible for the development of the breed Golden Retriever. I wanted to raise dogs that are able to hunt in the wild countryside of Scotland.

While Lord Tweedmouth wanted a dog that would be even more durable and vigorous than those available, he wanted to be sure that the new breed would be easily trained and have a good disposition. To begin with, he bred two dogs, the “Yellow Retriever” and the extinct Tweed Water Spaniel. Crossing the offspring with the Bloodhound, Irish Setter, and Tweed Water Spaniel again resulted in the Golden Retriever.

Character: Gold is not only famous for his intelligence and education, but also for his extreme good nature. Golden Retriever dog is not connected to a person, usually kind and friendly to almost everyone.

These dogs are very good with children, although it is sometimes said that the Golden Retriever needs to be protected from its young human friends. The ease of training and wonderful disposition of the dog makes it an excellent guide or helper dog for handicapped people.

Grooming: The medium-length coat of the Golden is easy to care for. A daily brushing will help control shedding, which occurs all year. The heaviest shed comes in the spring. The owner can also use a dry shampoo on the dog when desired. It is best not to bathe the dog unless absolutely necessary.

Living Conditions: The Golden Retriever is able to live outside, but should not be left outdoor during the winter, unless living in a warmer climate. The dog will be happy in an apartment as long as it receives adequate exercise. The best way to prevent undesirable behavior in your Golden is to make sure the dog has a long run or walk every day.
