Dog Hot Spots On The Way Home
Billy was driving around and had to stop at a red light. As he waited for the light to turn green, he noticed a dog sitting next to a wall licking itself extensively. While he sat and sat, the light seemed to take forever, he watched as the dog chewed and licked itself. As he watched her, he noticed a bright red spot and what appeared like blood. The dog was chewing itself so much, it was starting to bleed.
Sam decided to turn into the parking lot and have a closer look. He was fully aware of the fact that if he decided to leave, he would not forgive himself. The dog did not even notice him as he got out of the car. As he moved toward the dog, he reached out and held his hand to the animal.
The dog had a swollen, red, round area that encompassed most of her hind leg. She was bald, but continued to chew herself. She looked so unhappy, it made him sad.
Sam searched around her collar located a phone number written on her collar. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed the number and was told that she had escaped days before. Sam mentioned the dog hot spot he found on her and Sally, the owner, said she would be there in around 30 minutes.
When the owner, Bill arrived, Todd showed him the spot. “I have a Golden Retriever at home and she has had dog hot spots twice.”, Todd said. “You have to be very careful because they can start in a few hours and if not treated, they can spread to other areas.” Todd followed Bill to an emergency veterinary office down the road.
After the vet did the initial interview, he shaved all of the coat from the area and cleaned it. As Todd got ready to leave, he was happy that he had found her. In a couple of weeks, her coat would start to grow back and she would be well on her way to recovery.
