Deciding on a Turtle

Many view turtles as being the type of animals that you find in a zoo or in a lake and not in a home. Though some people don’t think they make a great pet, others really enjoy them.

Turtles can make great pets depending on what you are looking for and should be considered when deciding on one. Obviously they are not as cuddly as a dog but they have their own advantages.

People who choose to get a turtle for a pet are often very happy with their decision. They are different than dogs and cats but can be just as fun to have around.

There are a number of options when it comes to picking out your turtle. Don’t go in believing that they are all the same and that there is just one type.

One option is the slider turtle which remains a top choice for a turtle as a pet. They do well in cages or aquariums and they often grow to be about a foot in length.

Box turtles are also an option but these can live for over a hundred years. This type of turtle is for those who are prepared to make a seriously long term commitment to a pet that might outlive you.

Another type of turtle is the painted turtle which might not exactly make the greatest pet. You can tell it by the stripe that appears to be paint.

While a turtle can make an exciting pet, it should be known that they can really last for quite a long time so be ready for that type of lifespan. If you think you are up for that, then a turtle might be for you.

So get ready for a long life if you get a turtle. Pick the one you like and enjoy it in your home.
