Farm Ranch

On a recent episode of Kate Plus 8 you may have noticed that Kate Gosselin and the kids began a new project of building a chicken coop.  You may have started wondering if this is a realistic idea for the average Joe. Suddenly, the idea of the normal person owning their own chicken coop is actually a reality.

As you may have seen, chicken coop construction is not a difficult project and is a great source of entertainment for the entire family. One and all will be excited to be part of it. If someone with eight kids can handle the upkeep, well then certainly someone without such a large family can easily handle the upkeep and care of a chicken coop.

Building chicken coops in the backyard has become a new fad for all types of families. They are popping up everywhere these days, literally!  Check around you very own neighborhood, you will be surprised.  From the country to the city, chicken coops can be built and enjoyed by everybody.

It is easy to have a coop just like Kate Gosselin’s chicken coop, that is easy to build and easy to care for.  Did you know that, on average you will spend only 5-10 minutes a day caring for you chickens.  Or that each chicken will probably lay 3-6 eggs per week. Keep in mind also, chickens do lay eggs without Roosters, so you don’t have to be concerned about the Roosters crowing in the wee hours of the morning.  Roosters are there to fertilize the eggs that the chickens lay, so they are not necessary unless you are planning to raise baby chickens of your own.

Building a chicken coop is relatively simple and even someone that has little to no building experience can pull it off without a problem.  So do not be scared.  Before you get started here are a few things to take into consideration:

Space:  Find a great location in the yard with plenty of sun.  Chickens require sunlight to survive and thrive.

Plans:  Find a good set of chicken coop plans to make the process easier and quicker.  Without a good set of plans, you may find yourself realizing you left out some important parts that would not only benefit your chickens but yourself!

Time:  A simple chicken coop can be built in a day, some will take the weekend.  But no matter what coop you decide to build schedule in sometime where the entire family can participate in the activity.

Building a chicken coop is for everyone everywhere not just for TV personalities and farmers.  It is an easy to accomplish project, fun for the whole family and a great learning experience for everyone involved.
