Buy The Kids A Rabbit And A Rabbit Hutch For Christmas And I Will Love You Forever

The perfect pet for young children is a rabbit. Rabbits are small and cute and cuddly, cheap to feed and cheap to buy, quiet and don’t live nearly as long as a dog or a cat, so you won’t be looking after him 15 years from now.

And you can keep your rabbit indoors or outdoors as you choose.

A rabbit is normally housed in what is known as a rabbit hutch, or a rabbit cage. These generally consist of a sleeping area which is enclosed so that he can, if living in an outdoors hutch, be protected from the weather, and a run where he is able to play and exercise.

As a general rule the rabbit hutches available in pet shops are too small for one rabbit, let alone more than one. They are very active creatures and need plenty of exercise and unless you’re rabbit hutch is quite large most are unable to exercise adequately in them.

If you are keeping him outdoors you can overcome this problem by having a rabbit run. A run is simply a protected place where he can play when left out of the hutch where he is protected from predators and unable to escape.

But if you wish it is also perfectly possible to keep your rabbit indoors by putting his rabbit cage in, say, the laundry, anti will be warm and dry there.

As always it is important to clean out his cage regularly, though of course this also applies when keeping the rabbit hutch outdoors.

Just remember that it’s much better that the hutch does not have wire on the floor as rabbits do not like walking on wire and can damage their feet.

Indoors rabbits need exercise time outside the hutch each day just as outdoors rabbit do.

This of course is part of the fun for the rabbit owner. If you have a room specifically dedicated to rabbit play, where you have provided your rabbit with a safe environment and plenty of toys to play with, this is ideal for exercising him each day.

Though it takes a little effort rabbits can also be house trained, or what can be known as potty trained.

However before you allow your rabbit to play in his play area you need to do a thorough inspection because rabbits are very quick to disappear into holes, and can become stuck there. Do a full inspection of your rabbit play area for any dangerous holes.

Then why not cut up a few plastic pipes for him to play in and watching enjoy himself in his room.
