Avocados: Not Just For Humans Anymore (2) – AMG

We are aware of the fact that most dogs are carnivores. It is quite an astonishing fact to know that they like avocados, really…most dogs do! And avocados love them back by giving so much nutrition to the dogs.

Interestingly, it was dogs themselves who led us to the idea of using the avocado as a supplement to the canine diet. Avocado growers’ pet dogs were competing with the growers for any fallen fruit. Most of the dogs were chowing down on the avocados immediately. The growers became curious and decided to compare the nutrients that this amazing fruit contained with those needed by canines.

The avocados have rich amounts of linoleic acid, this element makes the dog’s hair quality improve. The dog’s hair will then become stronger and shinier. This is certainly not what we use to make linoleum shiny!

The dog’s fat requirement totally depends on how much physical activities they have. if they are working dogs or search and rescue dogs who exercise more, then they will be needing to have more fat in their diet. But for the average house dog, then just 5 to 8% of fat in the diet is enough.

Most of the dog foods have enough fat that fits the nutritional requirements of the average house dog. But then, it is boring to just let the dog eat a dry meal. If you were on the dog’s position, would you like that?

Avocados present a contrast in the dry canned food that you serve them. They can also be given as occasional treats too. Avocados can also give many good fats to your dogs. You don’t need to do anything to the avocados. Simply spoon out the flesh and give it to your dogs and for sure, they will be very thankful for that.
