Australian Bulldog – A New Breed Of Bulldog
A sourpuss expression created by the pushed in nose and heavily wrinkled face, large head, well boned and muscular body – these are typical features of a bulldog. When bulldogs are mentioned, people would immediately think of American Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and French Bulldogs. Not many people are aware that another breed of bulldog exists – the Australian Bulldog.
The “sourpuss” expression is the benchmark of bulldogs. In spite of the rather unappealing appearance bulldogs make wonderful home companions. Bulldogs are one of the breeds noted to have wonderful temperaments. Bulldogs are one of the dog breeds suitable for pet owners living in cramp quarters or in apartments as generally, they are placid dogs. Bulldogs though just like any other breed of dog would benefit from regular opportunities to exercise. The drawbacks in choosing these dogs for a pet is their genetic problems. Breed enthusiasts have initiated a breeding program that will create a new breed of bulldog that will not have the genetic health concerns existing in other bulldog breeds.
An Australian Bulldogs, also known as Aussie Bulldog is a fairly new breed. This breed was developed in early 1990s. The goal of the breeding program is to create a new breed of bulldog that will feature the admirable temperament but without the genetic health problems that is common in most breeds of bulldogs
True enough; the dog that was created by the developers does not have the exaggerated anatomical features of other bulldog breeds that restrict mobility. An Australian Bulldog has a distinctive appearance but it still has the typical features of a bulldog. The Aussie Bulldog still have the brick shaped and well boned body of bulldogs but the legs are straight thus it does not have the rolling gait typical to other bulldog breeds. This breed has a longer nose and fewer wrinkles because the skin on the face is not too loose. Due to the altered physical features, the genetic health concerns that plagued these dogs were somehow lessened.
The Australian Bulldog was specifically developed to be a home companion. Australian Bulldogs are indeed the perfect pet because it is loyal affectionate and has the inherent desire to please the human family. Australian Bulldogs are good natured pets as they would not be demanding unlike other dogs although they would want interaction with the family. An Australian Bulldog would be equally pleased to play actively with the children and to quietly sleep at the master’s feet.
